Joe Harding announced that he has filed to become a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives in District 22. Harding, a conservative Republican and seventh generation Floridian who was born and raised in Williston, is a local business owner. The seat is currently held by Representative Charlie Stone, who will not be seeking reelection in 2020 due to term limits.

“I know and love this community,” said Harding. “I believe it’s the best place in the world to raise a family, start a business, and retire. I plan to fight every day to make sure it stays that way."

Harding cites ending illegal immigration, outlawing sanctuary cities, and supporting agriculture as key components of his platform. Also topping his agenda are defending Second Amendment rights, protecting all human life, and addressing skyrocketing health insurance and prescription drug costs.

“Throughout my career, I have seen the negative impact of government overreach firsthand,” said Harding. “Wasteful government spending and growing bureaucracy do nothing but stifle innovation and job creation. Too much government involvement in the wrong issues is harmful, but so is inaction on issues like opioid addiction, which I’ve also had the experience of witnessing firsthand in friends and employees.”

Harding learned the value of hard work and good stewardship of resources in his large family of eleven siblings raised by his pastor father and homeschooling mother. While studying construction management at Florida International University, he worked multiple jobs to support himself, eventually working his way up into project management roles in which he managed multi-million dollar budgets, diverse clients, and demanding timelines. Currently, he owns and operates a lawn maintenance company and horse boarding and training facility.

Harding and his wife, Amanda, have four children. District 22 includes Levy County and part of Marion County.

Second Amendment

Protecting our Second Amendment rights is vital to preserving our freedom. Times may have changed, but our founders had it right more than two centuries ago: the right to keep and bear arms is essential to protecting and providing for our families. There is no evidence that increased gun restrictions prevent the tragedies we’ve seen in recent years.

The Right to Life

The right to life is fundamental, and it must be protected at every stage, from conception to natural death. Anti-life measures disguised as compassion must be stopped. Our most vulnerable citizens – the preborn, the elderly, the sick, and the disabled – deserve the dignity of equal personhood. Let’s work together to make Florida a culture of life where all can flourish.

Jobs and the Economy

Florida’s economy is headed in the right direction. Let’s stay the course by expanding policies that lower taxes and decrease burdensome regulations. Entrepreneurs need government to stay off their backs so they have time to serve their customers, expand their businesses, and create more jobs.

Florida’s education system should do right by every single student it serves. Whether headed to college or the job market out of high school, young people should have the opportunity, training, and tools to pursue their dreams. Students and parents are in the best position to know how to get there. They should decide how to get the best education possible in the setting that’s right for them, including traditional public school, charter school, virtual school, homeschool, or technical school.

Our waterways are one of Florida’s most precious natural resources, driving our tourism economy and providing for the needs of our growing population. We must be wise stewards. It’s vital that we protect our rivers and springs and take steps to ensure a clean, abundant water supply. Let’s work together, using science-backed data, to find the best solutions to preserve this essential resource.

It’s past time to do something about skyrocketing healthcare costs. Families and seniors struggling under the growing weight of rising costs for services and prescription drugs need relief. Patient-centered, market-driven solutions are the answer, and Florida should lead the way in making much-needed reforms to repair the damage Obamacare has done to prices and quality of care.

Protecting our borders is not unkind. In fact, the opposite is true. Florida is no place for so-called sanctuary cities. We should do everything possible to stop illegal immigration in order to preserve the American Dream for those who are here legally.
